Tom Manley

Tom Manley is a city landscape photographer; he captures all kinds of architecture. He also focuses on urban landscapes, he typically photographs older and some newer buildings, which is what I wanted to focus on.  I visited Tom Manley's website where he speaks about how his Urban photography has developed alongside his research on communities and how places change overtime, he says that his aim is to "capture the true identity of a place" and "everyday street culture."  He also speaks about how establishing compositions, angles and best times of day for shooting are important when shooting architecture as it can have a huge effect on the final image itself, which has helped me to realise what I need to take into consideration to complete a successful photo-shoot.

I decided to research another photographer so that I have more research to help with my latest work. The other urban photographers, who I have previously studied, mainly photograph large-scale buildings like skyscrapers and tower blocks where Manley photographs which are more available for anyone to photograph. I like his use of composition and the overall style in which he photographs his work, he also photographs in a different style and in different locations to any of the other photographers I have already looked at. I feel that Tom Manley also focuses on older architecture and older style buildings, which creates a contrast in the styles of photographs I have previously looked at. Manley is one of the only landscape photographers that I have found who photographs both old a new style buildings.
